Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported 13 calls from January 26th to January 29th.  A deputy responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in Jackson that was blocking a private driveway. The vehicle, which had Iowa registration, was found running and missing both front tires and sitting on their rims, the trunk was open, and a door window was also open. The vehicle was towed. The matter remains under investigation. Deputies responded to two separate juvenile issues, located and arrested a man with a warrant from Alpha, a female from Jackson with a warrant, and assisted Windom Police Department with an arrest of  a male from rural Windom with a warrant, handled a dog at large, and investigated a damage to property. January Weather Stats 2/1/26

The monthly weather statistics have been reported for the city of Windom in January.  The information is compiled by Dave Fjeld, the local weather observer and reported to the National Weather Service Office in Sioux Falls.  January precipitation, which includes rain and melted snow, was three tenths of an inch.   That compares to just a trace in 2025.  Snowfall amounts for the month totalled 2.8 inches.  The high temperature in January was 50 degrees on the 14th.  Our low for the month was 18 below on January 23rd.  The average high was 24.8 degrees and the low was a little warmer than year averaging 6 degrees.

The Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners will be meeting Tuesday February 3rd at 9:00am at the Cottonwood County Courthouse in the Commissioners Room.

The Windom City Council will be meeting Tuesday February 3rd at 4:30 pm at Windom City Hall in the City Council Chambers. This meeting is open to the public and amongst other business, Windom City Council will take up the first reading of Ordinance No. 204 starting the required process to potentially sell Windomnet to Federated Electric/Broadband of Jackson. City documents say talks began in late 2024, with an ad hoc Telecom Commission committee meeting through 2025. The Council reviewed an independent appraisal in November and held additional meetings with Federated in December. A joint public meeting was held January 14th. The proposed asset purchase agreement lists a $6 million sale price. If the first reading passes, a second reading is scheduled February 17th.
