Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported 20 calls from January 19th to January 22nd . Deputies assisted other agencies and responded to several traffic accidents and vehicle issues. Investigated a suspicious vehicle in Heron Lake and in Des Moines Township, conducted 2 requested welfare checks, received a report of a possible credit card scam and delt with a juvenile issue. The Windom Area Health Governing Board meets tonight at 5:30 p.m. in the Large Conference Room. The board will receive an educational update on surgery services, and consider approval of updated EMTALA and tissue and eye donation policies. Committee reports will include medical staff credentialing, financial and personnel matters, and quality and planning updates. Board members will review statistical and financial performance reports, capital acquisition activity including a proposed HVAC vendor change, educational assistance applications, recent hires and transfers, patient concerns, and patient safety reports. Additional updates will be provided by administration, the City of Windom, Sanford Health Network, the WAH Foundation, and the WAH Auxiliary.

The Windom Area School Board will hold a work session tonight at 5:30 p.m. in the Windom City Council Chambers, streamed live on YouTube. The board will hear a presentation from Kristi Maricle’s 3rd Grade Enrichment Class showcasing Makey Makey devices. Members will review the proposed 2026–2027 school calendar ahead of action at the February 9 meeting, consider approval of several district policies with technical updates, and review additional policies for information only. Financial updates include the district’s estimated cash flow and a budget-to-actual comparison for the 2025–26 fiscal year. The board will also consider approving the use of 3–4 classrooms at the Highland Early Learning Center to help expand local childcare options.

The Murray County Board of Commissioners meets Tuesday morning, January 27, at 8:30 at the Murray County Government Center. Commissioners are scheduled to consider a wildlife habitat easement with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services, approve the 2025 audit engagement letter, and review several equipment purchases, including squad up-fitting, emergency management lighting, and training room furnishings. The board will also act on the county’s hazard mitigation plan, surplus portable generators, and discuss a proposed summer internship program. The Windom City Council approved the creation of a Joint Airport Zoning Board and authorized budget carryovers for the Police and Street Departments at their meeting last week. The Joint Airport Zoning Board will be formed with Cottonwood County and the Townships of Dale, Great Bend, and Lakeside to oversee zoning regulations around the Windom Municipal Airport. The board will work on updating the airport zoning ordinance, which was last revised in 1979. Matt Fast and Jared Baloun were appointed as Windom’s representatives on the board. The council also approved 2025 budget carryovers. The Police Department will use carryover funds to pay off its Axon Assistant AI translation and transcription tool, while the Street Department will move $60,000 into 2026 to expand seal coating and crack filling projects and help secure better pricing.
