Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported 20 calls from January 12th to January 15th. Deputies handled 4 separate Juvenile Issues, investigated a suspicious vehicle and an abandoned vehicle and camper at Anderson Park, Arrested a 39-year-old male from Jackson for a warrant with 4 separate counts of criminal sexual conduct, assisted with a civil standby for property and delt with a civil issue over use of a vehicle, responded to a report of threats made on social media, a Facebook Marketplace Fraud and conducted a welfare check. The Jeffers City Council met on the 12th. Council approved the slate of 2026 officers for the Jeffers Fire Department, including Cory Schroeder as Chief, Josh Lugo as Assistant Chief, Skyler Prins as Treasurer, and Taylor Rose as Secretary. The council also approved annual officer pay increases, setting compensation at $750 each for Treasurer, Secretary, and Assistant Chief, and $1,000 for the Fire Chief. In addition, firefighter pay for calls, meetings, and training was increased to $20 per hour. Following discussion, the council voted to pay a first responder tuition bill, with the motion passing 4–1. The council reviewed and unanimously approved the city’s ambulance service contract with Westbrook Ambulance. A report of a dog being off leash was noted, and a fine will be issued to the resident involved. Two resolutions were adopted unanimously, including Resolution 2026-01, which maintains statutory limits on municipal tort liability, and Resolution 2026-02, setting city fees and charges for 2026. Jeffers City Maintenance Supervisor, Lance Holmen reported a leaking pump at the city ponds and said he will check pricing for a replacement. Council approved payment of bills and the financial report.

The evening kicks off with a hearty chili and crackers supper at 5:30 for just five dollars to warm you up before the games begin. Bingo starts at 6:30 with ten games on the schedule. Cards are just one dollar each, and cash prizes will be awarded based on the number of cards sold, so the more players, the bigger the fun!
