The Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners had a regular scheduled meeting yesterday morning. Commissioners approved minutes from previous meetings and passed several resolutions, including one to review a proposed state land acquisition and another calling for a public hearing on a tax abatement for a new residential project at 1955 Bud Road. The board also adopted a resolution joining a lawsuit against the State of Minnesota regarding mandated prescription medication protocols in correctional facilities. In other business, commissioners voted to continue working with Integrity Employee Benefits and move forward with a private Paid Family Medical Leave plan through Met Life. The board also approved the termination of an employmee after an unexcused three-day absence and authorized advertising for a part-time landfill scale operator. An employment agreement was approved for Stephen Schnieder to serve as interim county engineer, and August warrants were approved, totaling just under $213,000.

Two really cool things happened last night. The Fill the School Bus Eagle Achievement Project led by Drayton Fritz and  Jacob Winters was an amazing thing to witness. I am not going to lie, when I came up and saw Palmer Bus had brought like one of the biggest longest busses I had my doubts, BUT it was awesome to see all the school supplies being loaded into the seats and EVERY SEAT in the bus had school supplies on it. Today the boys are at task UNLOADING and Sorting all the supplies and we will have an update once everything is gone through. NIGHT TO UNITE was fun too! What a wonderful event that Cottonwood County Probation and Windom Police Department put on tonight. I had my grandsons and they had so much fun. James LOVED all the Stickers and now believes he is a certified officer, guess he is because he has the badge to prove it so beware everyone he is ready to write tickets! Thank you to ALL the Law Enforcement officers that had such patience and smiles for all the littles that just idolize you. I will say Henry got to meet Sheriff Jason Purrington whom he always uses in his News Story and although was star struck while in his presence, talked non-stop about how cool it was he got to finally meet him AND sit in his car. The crowds were great, the air-conditioning inside the Community Center was really nice and seeing so many friendly faces and having the opportunity to connect was perfect! Thanks once more to Jacob, Drayton, Jenny and Chief Peterson for including KDOM in this fun night!
