Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported 27 calls from June 26th to July 1st. Deputies responded to a semi rollover about 2 miles NW of Jackson. The semi was hauling hogs. The Jackson Fire Dept, Lakefield Fire Department, Fairmont Fire Department and their Livestock Rescue Team, MN State Patrol, and Warmka Towing all assisted at the scene. Personnel were on scene for about 5.5 hours off-loading the hogs onto another trailer. Deputies responded to several disturbances in Jackson, Heron Lake and one involving a male from rural Alpha. The Jackson Fire Department was paged to a report of a tree branch on a power line that was on fire. Crews were on scene for about 1 hour and a deputy received a report of an online sextortion scam requesting an Xbox gift card for payment. Windom Police Department conducted a traffic stop on June 26th at 6:44pm at the intersection of River Road and Kalash Road and arrested a 40-year-old female from Windom for Driving After Revocation, a Misdemeanor. The female has had three prior convictions for the same violation. On the 28th at 3:26pm an officer took a report of damage to property. The reporting party from Bingham Lake reported that her 2011 Ford Fusion looked as if the hood was keyed while at Windom High School Lot. The vehicle was parked in the lot on the night of the 27th when they believed the damage was done.

A tragic accident in Cottonwood County has claimed the life of a young father and community member in Jeffers. 32-year old Ethan Quade lost his life after a farming accident on Saturday June 28th Authorities say Quade was working on a vehicle at his family’s farm on Saturday evening when the jack gave way, pinning him underneath. The Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Department was called to the scene just after 7:30 p.m. First Responders worked furiously to raise the vehicle to remove Quade from under the vehicle but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the scene. He is remembered as a devoted husband, loving father of three young daughters, and an active member of the community including service with the local fire department. A GoFundMe page has been set up to support his wife Mikayla and their children during this difficult time. Donations will go toward funeral costs and to help the family in the coming months. The Fulda City Council will hold its regular meeting TONIGHT at 5:00 p.m. The agenda includes updates from city departments including police, fire, and streets along with a review on a revised law enforcement contract with Murray County, clarifying billing in 15-minute increments. The council will discuss and act on a resolution to join the 4M Fund investment program, and hear updates on Emerald Ash Borer findings in Slayton and at the fairgrounds, and an offer to purchase a lot in the Wood Duck development.

June Weather Stats 7/2/25
The monthly weather statistics have been reported for the city of Windom in June. The information is compiled by Dave Fjeld, the local weather observer, and reported to the National Weather Service Office in Sioux Falls. In June we received 5 and 47 hundredths of an inch of precipitation compared to the 14 and 58 hundredths last year during the flood in June. For the year we have received 13 and 14 hundredths total compared to the 29 and 35 hundredths in 2024 and 15 and 97 hundredths for the year in 2023. The high for the month was 96 degrees on the 22nd and the low reported was 54 degrees on June 3rd and again on the 9th.
