The Windom City Council met Tuesday night and approved a resolution awarding the bid for the 2025 Taxilane Widening Project at the Windom Municipal Airport. The project comes with a total price tag of just over $172,800, with Svoboda Excavating submitting the lowest responsible bid. The funding for the project will be shared among federal, state, and local sources with 90% covered by federal funds, 5% from the state, and 5% from the city. The award is contingent on the final grant approval from both the Federal Aviation Administration and the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Once that funding is secured, the city will move forward with issuing the notice of award and finalizing the contract. The Council also took the first step toward a possible pause on new billboard development in town. The council approved authorizing the preparation of an ordinance that would place a six-month moratorium on any new billboard applications. The move gives city staff time to study current billboard regulations in Windom’s code, compare it with other cities, and get legal review. The idea stemmed from recent billboard application activity and public response. The Planning Commission discussed the matter earlier this month and recommended the moratorium to allow a more thorough look at the city’s current rules. If adopted in the coming months, the moratorium would temporarily stop the acceptance or consideration of any new conditional use permits for billboards. The ordinance will go through legal review and be brought back for formal consideration by the Council in a future meeting.

As much as I would love to celebrate National Take your Dog to Work Day… I honestly believe our Otis would send Joe to an early retirement. Otis is coming along nicely and he really is a good boy… BUT he still is a little whacky in the sense he doesn’t have any concept of personal space, he pops the ol’ personal space bubble no matter where he is or who he is with. He won’t win any awards for National Ugly Dog Day(also being celebrated today) because in fact, he is a beautiful specimen of whatever breed he is… He is friendly and loves to just be your friend which can drive anyone batty. So, Otis will stay home today and the Station will function as normal for another day. What I can celebrate is National Vanilla Milkshake Day today. Is there anything better than a cold creamy vanilla shake on a hot summer day? I dare you to say there is! Get your flip flops out and grab a shake and pretend you are at work and play with your dog today!
