The Windom Police Department reported on May 29th at 4:58pm officers took a report at the Law Enforcement Center from a resident of Windom. The reporting party stated that someone had taken two flowerpots in the 1500 block of 3rd Avenue. The reporting party stated she notice the flowers were there when she had left for her walk and then realized they were gone later in the day. Estimated value of stolen property is $60.

May Weather Stats 6/1/25

The monthly weather statistics have been reported for the city of Windom in May.  The information is compiled by Dave Fjeld, the local weather observer, and reported to the National Weather Service Office in Sioux Falls.  In May we received just two and 23 hundredths of an inch of precipitation. That’s over 4 inches less than the six and eighty-three hundredths we received in 2024.  For the year we received 7 and 67 hundredths compared to 14 and 77 hundredths last year.  Our high temperature was 90 degrees recorded on May 12th.  The low for the month was 35 degrees on May 3rd.

Windom Area Schools will once again be offering free summer lunches for children in the community. Superintendent Jamie Frank has announced that beginning June 9th and continuing through August 15th, free meals will be available Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. The program is open to all children ages 0 to 18 years of age and will be available at two locations: Highland Early Learning Center and Windom Elementary School. No registration is required, and there is no cost to participate. Frank went onto say this initiative is part of the district’s ongoing commitment to students’ well-being and ensuring access to nutritious meals throughout the summer months.

The City of Heron Lake announced they began their 2025 Water Main Flushing Schedule. Hydrant flushing will continue through June 6th. During this time, residents may notice discolored water when hydrants are being flushed in their area. While the water remains safe to use, the city recommends avoiding washing white or light-colored clothing to prevent staining. Water Main Flushing in the city of Heron Lake should be completed by weeks end.

  • Jackson County Board of Commissioners and the Drainage Authority will meet at 9am at the Jackson County Court House Commissioners Board Room
  • The Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners will be meeting at 9:00am at the Cottonwood County Courthouse in the Commissioners Room.
  • The St James City Council will be meet at 5:30pm in Saint James City Hall Council Chambers. Meetings can be viewed live or anytime on the City of St James’s YouTube Channel.
  • The Windom City Council will be meeting at 6:30 pm at Windom City Hall in the City Council Chambers.
