Windom Police Department reported in their weekly citizen report, 83 calls in the week of April 28th to May 3rd. Officers did 2 CEP Intake Reports, handled 3 Citizen Complaints, responded to 3 Concerns for Welfare, handled 2 Harassment Calls and conducted 35 Traffic Stops. Windom Police Dept Weekly Citizen Report April 28th-May 3rd

On the 3rd at approximately 8:30pm a Windom Police Officer while on patrol observed a vehicle in the 1400 block of 17th Street driving suspiciously in which he initiated a traffic stop. After investigation, an arrest was made of a 42-year-old Jackson male for DWI with Controlled Substance, pending Blood Test results; and Felon Convicted of Crime of Violence by Processing Ammunition after being convicted of or adjudicated delinquent of a crime of violence. Charges pending review by Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

The Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Department reported on the 3rd at 2:32 pm a Deputy responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of County Road 1 and County Road 13 in Mountain Lake. A 2001 Ford, driven by 23 yr old male of Jackson was traveling southbound on County Road 1 as a 2007 Chevy, driven by 43 yr old male of rural Windom was traveling west bound, stopped at the stop sign on County Road 13. The driver of the Chevy did not see the Ford on the road and proceeded across County Road 1 and struck the Ford on the rear driver side, causing the Ford to roll multiple times and coming to rest upright. The Chevy had front end damage and came to rest facing east. The driver of the Ford was transported to the Windom Hospital.

The Cottonwood County Auditor/Treasurer’s Office reminds property owners that the first half of real estate taxes are due by Thursday, May 15th. Payments must be postmarked on or before that date. Be sure to include your payment stub. A penalty will apply to late payments—details are on the back of your tax statement. You can mail your payment to 900 3rd Avenue in Windom, drop it off at the Auditor/Treasurer’s Office, or use the dropbox on the courthouse’s northeast corner. For questions, call 831-1905. Again, real estate taxes are due Thursday, May 15th.

The Jeffers City Council met on April 28th. The council had an extended discussion about the former Legion property, but no action was taken. The council then approved to pay all bills and approved the financial report.

The Windom Area Elementary School is opening its doors to the public for a special Family Engagement Night on Tuesday, May 13th. From 6:15 to 8:00 PM, students, families, friends, and community members are invited to stroll through the halls and enjoy the Windom Area Elementary Student Art Gallery Walk. Each grade level will showcase its own “art gallery,” filled with colorful and creative student artwork. It’s a chance to celebrate young talent and support the school community. The Des Moines Valley Health and Human Services Board Meeting will be on Thursday, May 8th at 9:00 am in the Jackson County Government West Conference Room located at 407 5th Street, Jackson.
