The Watonwan County Sheriff’s Office released the following information. On May 1st at approximately 1:48am a deputy with the Watonwan County Sheriff’s Office attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a 2005 gray Ford F-150 displaying no license plates. Upon activation of the deputy’s emergency lights, the vehicle accelerated and failed to stop, initiating a pursuit. The pursuit continued through Watonwan County and into Cottonwood County. After a lengthy chase, the suspect drove into a field, exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Deputies and Officers from multiple agencies responded to establish a perimeter. The Watonwan County K-9 unit was deployed to conduct a track from the abandoned vehicle, and the Minnesota State Patrol provided aerial support via fixed wing aircraft.  The suspect, a 48-year-old male from Windom was located laying in a field and was taken into custody without further incident. A subsequent investigation determined the vehicle had been stolen from Jackson County, though it had not yet been reported at the time of the pursuit. The suspect was transported to the Watonwan County Jail where he remains in custody pending formal charges. The investigation is ongoing.  The Watonwan County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in this incident by the St James Police Department, Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office, Windom Police Department, Mountain Lake Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Minnesota State Patrol. The Watonwan County Sheriff’s Department thanked their partner agencies for their cooperation and assistance in bringing this incident to a safe resolution.

April Weather Stats 5/1/25

The monthly weather statistics have been reported for the city of Windom in April.  The information is compiled by Dave Fjeld, the local weather observer, and reported to the National Weather Service Office in Sioux Falls. In April, we two and 47 hundredths of an inch of precipitation compared to four and 88 hundredths of an inch in 2024.  So far for the year, we have received five and 44 hundredths of an inch which is about 2 and a half inches less than at this time last year. The high for the month was 81 degrees on April 18th and the low was just 19 degrees on April 8th.

It’s that time of year again when Moms who live in Minnesota are invited to join a free virtual fishing challenge during Take a Mom Fishing Weekend Saturday, May 10, through Sunday, May 11, when Minnesota moms can fish without purchasing a fishing license.

To participate in the challenge, moms simply need to join the 2025 Minnesota Moms Fishing Challenge Facebook group and submit one photo of each fish they catch on May 10-11. All participants who submit a fish will be entered in a random drawing for prizes provided by the Student Angler Organization and their partners. The 2025 Minnesota Moms Fishing Challenge is a collaboration between the Minnesota DNR, Student Angler Organization and Women Anglers of Minnesota. This is the third year the DNR and its partners are hosting the Minnesota Moms Fishing Challenge. During the 2024 challenge, more than 3,000 Minnesota moms from across the state participated, catching 1,500 fish.

It’s May 2nd…Hopefully you found joy around the May Pole Yesterday! What a fun tradition that brings such fond memories from my youth to my kids and onto my grandchildren! I hope that it never ends!!! In the spirit of reminiscing… Today is National Brother and Sister Day. I am the baby of 5 my oldest brother Jim and only biological sister Cathy have passed but still hold a special place in that treasure box in my heart. BUT a HUGE shout out to my Brothers Mike and Mark… Yep, they still gotta put up with me! AND I am totally blessed to have sisters in law that feel more like sisters than an in-law. SO to Deb, Kris, Becky, Connie, Annie, Beth and Kathy THANK YOU for being my sister from another mother… I should mention, Doug, Bill, Ed, Kurt, Joel and Dave after so many years they too are an extension of me! It’s also play your Ukelele Day, I am guessing a lot of you are saying what the heck who plays the Ukelele in these parts…Well let me tell you my daughter in law April does and my Sweet Henry has been know to pluck a few chords too!!! So YES.. This does need to be mentioned! HA!!! If you have an exhibitionist in your life today is their day! TODAY IS NO PANTS DAY!! My crazy Darcy and Theo celebrate this day more then just today BUT maybe I’ll pull the curtains and see just what the thrill is… It’s National Tuna Day… One of my favorite sandwiches… and National Life Insurance day… Are you up-to-date on your policies?
