It’s a CATERRIFFIC tale that just needs to be told…

Back in late November of 2024 a sweet picture was taken of “Pumpkin” a rescue kitten that started off not so great in this big world, she was found under a porch totally emaciated and covered in fleas and needed a home that had a mama cat that could possibly nurse her back to health. A call was made to Hilary Mathis and a connection was made instantly, not with the mama cat but with the family. She ended up needing to be bottle fed and through patience, care and love the 2 ½ week old tiny kitten wormed her way into adoption and has thrived and become just another member of the family. According to Hilary, she posted the sweet picture of Pumpkin on her Facebook Page and Representative Marj Fogelman tagged her to a post of America’s Favorite Pet Contest. Of course, Hilary’s first thoughts were there was no way she would get in but thought what the heck- we will try it. With the approval from the City Attorney, Ron Schrammel it was a go… It must be noted that Hilary is doing this contest solely as a community member and the Grand Prize which is $10,000, and a cover on Modern Cat magazine will be donated entirely to Cottonwood County Animal Rescue. Hilary went on to say that she is also entered into a $500 toy and treat giveaway that would also be donated to CCAR if she was to win that. This contest has many steps… First there was the Top 20-15-10-5 then there are Group Finals, Wildcard Finals and of course Quarter, Semi, Finals and the Grand Prize will be announced on or before April 12th. It does not cost to vote and you can vote once a day for free. If you want to make a donation you can but are not required too. Pumpkin currently is sitting in 1st Place so Hilary is feeling confident. Votes are going to be super important as the contest goes further. If you want to get on the Pumpkin Train and help to secure such an astronomical donation to the Cottonwood County Animal Rescue in Windom, the link is https://americasfavpet.com/2025/pumpkin-034e/  or you can go to Hilary Mathis personal Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/hilary.mathis.9 Remember it doesn’t cost anything to vote and you can vote once a day. Hilary stated, voting is going to be really important later on in the contest and she just thinks it would be THE coolest thing EVER to be able to donate that kind of money to the rescue. She is SO thankful we have them, and LOVE fostering for and donating to them. Hilary went onto say, “I can house cats for them all day long, and throw $100 here and there, but I’d NEVER be able to give this kind of money, so I’m just keeping the attitude of “she is GOING to win!” to make sure it happens, it would just be THE BEST to win this for them!”  Now get on your computer and VOTE!
