The Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners met on Tuesday. The Board listened to legislative updates from Representative Joe Schomacker, Representative Marj Fogelman and Senator Bill Weber. The Commissioners approved all hires and resignations and moved to allow for posting internally and advertising for the position of Deputy Recorder. Commissioners set the levy for 2025 at $13,570,703, which translates as a 6% increase from 2024. The Preliminary levy that was approved in September is what the final levy will remain. By law, the county cannot increase a final levy from the preliminary levy. The Board then moved to set the 2025 annual Commissioners Salary at $23,750 with the Chair receiving an additional $1,200 per diems at $100 per day, and the technology fee at $60 month. There was a motion to appoint Norm Holmen to continue as a committee member for mediation and allow for per diem and mileage. The Commissioners also went into closed session to discuss strategy for upcoming labor negotiations.

Well, isn’t the timing of this National Games Day just perfect with all the snow that is falling… take time out, grab your kids and play a fun game of Candy Land, Life or Monopoly or maybe it is just you and your significant other. Break out the Cribbage, Backgammon board!!! Play all day and into the night!!! But don’t forget to pay attention to the details as they say cross your T’s and Dot your I’s… Today is National Dot your I’s day! I have never been able to NOT cross my T’s, but I am notorious for not dotting my I’s so today I am going to make a valent effort! I might mention that it is Ugly Sweater Day and Go Caroling Day. I use to love to go Caroling. I am not a singer, but I loved everything about walking around the neighborhood and being a part of a fun group of people just spreading Joy through singing Christmas Caroles. I think that is a thing of the past, which is a sad thing. There truly is nothing better than hearing outside your door a beautiful song floating in the crispness of the air and bouncing in the echoes of the landscape! The snow is starting to stir that Christmas is coming and the goose is getting fat please put a penny in the old mans hat, kind of feeling.
