Reindeer Races are wrapping up!!! Only a few more days left till Santa straps up his trusty reindeer and takes off on the greatest journey in a matter of 24 hours!!! This year’s races have been filled with the Thrill of Victory and the Agony of Defeat. There is one thing though the Reindeer Sponsors Have been doing some pretty crazy things to create the winners they believe their Reindeer to be. I thought we needed to do a little “investigative reporting and learn just how each Reindeer is being trained and maybe uncover the secrets as to why each was doing so great at the track! I headed out to Windom Farm Service to chat with Tim Hacker about Rudolf and they have a pretty cool set up, I’m not sure Rudolf is ever going to want to go back to the North Pole.
Tim Hacker- “We all know that Rudolph is the most important reindeer of all so we are treating him like royalty. We have an Old Hickory lofted shed all set up for him with fresh straw for bedding and plenty of corn, oats and hay mixed with molasses that we are feeding him. We also have a secret ingredient that we spike in his water for extra energy and to keep his nose shining red. His training regiment is crucial. We start him out by pulling a John Deere lawnmower around the lot in the morning. We then harness him up to a John Deere 4020 to get his heart rate where it needs to be be. To finish off the training routine we hook him up to a S790 John Deere combine where it really makes his legs work to win races and of course pulls Santa’s sleigh and all those presents. He should be in tip top shape by Christmas Eve!”
Dasher was seen flying over PM Repair so I stopped and chatted with Paul Marsh and he is convinced his methods of preparation are what is going to bring home the heat!!!
Paul Marsh-“Well, Dasher actually has been top priority for us lately. First thing, we’ve been giving him a lot of that energy drink the NOS. He likes that stuff.. and we’ve been wrappping his hooves in Falcon Tires, so he has good traction and he’s been getting a lot of uh, fuel a lot of energy, you know, just keeping them going.”
There is nothing but skilled and thought out plans for Dancer. State Farm Stacie Sanow is convinced that they have an edge over everyone. They “INSURE” a win with Dancer because they have a policy of being the best and planning for the wins in life.
Stacie Sanow- “State Farm is currently hosting nightly flying exercises. We are running time trials to get him to his goal time and that we have a special diet of privately grown carrots from the backyard that is feeding him. It is our pet insurance that we offer that has protected Dancer and kept him in A+ Shape and has enabled him along with our sprinkles, that we put on his carrots to do all those phenomenal things on the racetrack.”
I had an opportunity to chat with Bridget at Elite Appliance Plus and she claims that Vixen is getting faster and stronger everyday with the regiment of training they have created. Vixen is a master at hauling Whirlpool Refrigerators on his back while practicing perfect landings and zooming around their homemade track in the back. Bridget says the key is though Vixen has been napping in the freezers to help get his body temperature accustomed to the colder temperatures during race time! Betty Ashley with A & W in Mt Lake says no one is going to beat Blitzen because there is nothing better for training than a frosty mug of A&W root beer. And it has been reported that Blitzen is totally nourished by all the great eats and cold treats at A&W restaurant.
Prancer has a secret weapon with Cottonwood County Veterinary Clinic as his sponsor. According to Dr Travis they KNOW exactly what it is going to take to win the gold.
Dr. Travis- “Well, he’s a good reindeer. We are keeping him.. his hooves well trimmed and we give him just a little bit of candy cane every day for that little extra edge. Well, you know, we just kind of have the dog kennels around here, but we let him kind of get out and run around in the back area a little bit, but you know, we give them a couple extra carrots a day, and that’s got good vitamin C in it.”
Wolf Therapeutic Massage’s Jeremy just shakes his head when he talks about Cupid. But there is no doubt they have figured out just how to handle this spunky little deer..
Jeremy -“Well, I don’t know if you know this about Cupid, but he is quite the diva. So he likes regular massages and he likes his massages to Mary Chapen music and he likes his hoofs trimmed just perfect for race day. So yeah, he gets a lot of attention, a lot of attention massages every day, and like I said, he’s quite the diva.”
Brown’s Shoe Fit in Worthington has every type of Shoe possible and reports have been coming in that Donner has been seen wearing FLY Shoes with excellent traction and comfort to get through the day without feeling the fatigue of racing around.
And last but not least, I was over at Hair with Flair and low and behold, Comet was in the House! Tashia Marsh was HYPED UP about Comet and I can’t tell a lie Comet looked good!!!
Tashia-“Well, at Hair with Flair, we’ve just been keeping Comet relaxed and satisfied in our salon. He’s getting detoxes and tanning. We’re helping him move forward with his nail care and I gave him this amazing haircut so he can run faster!”
In the end what it comes down to is who is actually going to win the race and who should our contestants hope they have while racing into the Final Race. It’s semi-final time and KDOM wishes everyone luck but ALL our sponsors have their own opinions!!!
“Of course, Dancer is going to win. That is the only prediction that we will discuss”…
…”Dasher, hands down and he’s going to win. I mean, he’s gonna, I pull out in front of the rest of them”… “Well, of course, I’m going to predict Comet, winning everything, because he’s just the best!!”… “I think Cupid, is about as ready as he can be, he’s ready to take them all down. He is doing sooo good this year. I’m saying yes, I’m ready, he’s ready too!”… “You know what, I have A LOT of confidence that Prancer is gonna be the winner”…. …“Rudolph has been easy to train. We actually tell him to let the other reindeer win once in a while….. to teach them that it’s a team effort and they all need to do their part for the Christmas delivery. That is Santa’s request.”
