Windom Police Department reported on the 13th at approximately 6:20pm officers received a phone call from a Windom Female that an Osseo, MN male e-mailed her despite the fact that she is the petitioner of a Harassment Restraining Order (HRO) that is valid through December 2024 and states the male suspect cannot have contact with said Windom Female. The order specifically mentions e-mailing as a violation. After investigation, an arrest was made of the 37-year-old male for Harassment Restraining Order Violation, a Gross Misdemeanor, pending review by the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. On the 15th it was reported at 5:59am a two-vehicle injury accident at the intersection of 10th Street and Prospect Ave. A 2016 Mazda 6 was traveling westbound on 10th Street approaching the intersection when a 2005 Mitsubishi was traveling Southbound on Prospect approaching the same intersection. The Mitsubishi entered the intersection and collided with the passenger side of the Mazda. The ambulance was called to transport one driver and the Mazda was towed.

MN State Patrol reported on the 13th at approximately 1:12pm a fatal accident occurred when a 2011 Chevy Equinox driven by a 71-year-old female of Worthington was Eastbound on I-90 and stopped in the lane. A 2023 Ram Pickup driven by a 45-year-old female of Redfield SD was also Eastbound on I-90 behind the Equinox. The vehicles collided near Milepost 45. The driver of the Equinox who was reported not to be wearing a seatbelt was transported to Worthington Hospital and died. The Driver and passengers in the Pickup were reported as uninjured and all having their seatbelts on. Outside agencies assisting were Nobles County Sheriffs Department and Worthington Police Department. On the 15th at 10:37am a two-vehicle accident occurred on Highway 71 and Redwood County Road 2 in Morton. A 2013 Chevrolet Malibu and a 1998 Chevrolet Monte Carlo were both west bound on Highway 71 when they collided. The Driver of the Malibu a 19-year-old female of Redwood Falls along with the driver of the Monte Carlo a 64-year-old female and her passenger a 71-year-old male both of Fairfax were all transported to Centra Care Redwood Falls Hospital with what is believed to be non-life threatening injuries. It was reported that all occupants were wearing seatbelts. Outside agencies assisting was Redwood County Sheriff’s Office.

Windom Community Education is offering 55+ Defensive Driver Training on October 7th from 12:30-4:30pm at the Highland Building located at 68 10th Street in Windom. You can register for a four hour or eight hour Defensive Driving Course. Participants will receive a certificate of completion after attending all portions of the class they registered for. FEMA and State Disaster Recovery Centers have opened in Windom at the Cottonwood County Office Building located at 41385 US Highway 71. There will be Specialists from FEMA, the State of Minnesota and the U.S. Small Business Administration to help those affected by the Flood Disaster apply for Federal Disaster Assistance, Upload Documents, answer questions and inform people of other types of assistance that may be available to them. This Recovery Center will be open until Friday September 27th, which is the deadline to apply with FEMA. The Center will be available Monday through Friday 9am to 6:30pm and Saturday’s 9am to 4pm. They will be closed on Sundays. The Windom Area Chamber of Commerce Shred Event is happening tomorrow in the parking lot of Schwalbach Ace Hardware. Protect yourself from identity theft and fraud and shred those documents you no longer need. All paper will be recycled. Windom Chamber Members will be served from 3pm-5pm and then the Public is welcomed from 5pm-7pm.
