The Windom City Council met on Tuesday. The council started the meeting with a Resolution of Appreciation to Denise Nichols on her years of service to the City of Windom from June 1998 until her retirement in September 2024. Denise had a hand in many grants and funding projects and all her efforts were greatly appreciated. No public comments were made for the Public Hearing that was held for the Residential Tax Abatement at 1955 Bud Road. The council approved to pass the tax abatement. Discussion was held on the City of Windom and Cottonwood County Leases. According to Councilwoman Jenny Quade, The City of Windom leases space at the County Law Enforcement Center for the Police Department. The County has requested a 5% increase in the next two year rental agreement. 2024 rate is $2050 per month, the increased amount for 2025-2026 would be $2152 per month. The City Council approved the rental increase. Quade went onto say the City then looked at their rental rates on the bays in the old fire department garage area to the County. This was initially agreed on a $200 per month fee in 2017 and has never been adjusted as it was initially thought it may be a short-term agreement. The Council made a motion to increase the rate to $250 per month to the County. The Council approved the hiring of Leesa Arndt for the position of Finance/Information Analyst.
