The Windom Fire Department was paged to 615 2nd Ave in Bingham Lake for a UTV accident at 12:27pm on Monday September 2nd. According to Fire Chief Ben Derickson, they arrived on scene at 12:31 and cleared the scene at 12:51pm. According to a family member, while driving through Bingham Lake something on the UTV locked up on the back wheel causing it to roll and he was admitted to Windom Hospital. Assisting at the scene was Windom Fire and Ambulance, Windom Police Department, Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Department and MN State Patrol.

Minnesota State Patrol reported on Saturday August 31st, at approximately 2:55pm a crash near the intersection of Highway 30 and County Road 5 just east of Darfur occurred. A 2012 Harley Davidson Ultra Classic Electra Glide driven by Ronald Ray Willard, 61 of Jeffers and his passenger 68-year-old Leslie Gail Makovski of Jeffers were eastbound when an eastbound 1997 Oldsmobile 88 driven by 39-year-old Tawnia Kae Jacob, of Chandler collided with them. Willard and Makovski were both transported to St James Hospital with what was thought to be serious but non-life threatening injuries. Both were wearing helmets. Jacob was not injured and was arrested and transported to the Watonwan County Jail.

Mt Lake Police Reported 13 Calls from August 26th to August 31st. An Officer assisted a motorist that lost a tire and handled a dog at large. There were 5 citations issued to drivers for hands free violation, Driving After Cancellation, No Proof of Insurance, No Insurance and Driving After Suspension. An officer checked on parties in the City Park after hours and on a suspicious parked vehicle. Officers assisted other agency with a wrong way driver on Highway 60 and took a report of a scam. An Officer checked on a vehicle with the doors open and took a report of a hit and run causing light damage to drivers mirror.

Cottonwood County Commissioners met on Tuesday. The Commissioners motioned to direct Alex Schultz, Planning and Zoning Technician, to draft a moratorium on all cryptocurrency mining operations within Cottonwood County pending the EAW conclusion and to allow for a 60-Day extension of the conditional use permit requested by Revolve Labs. Commissioners also started a restitution fund in 2025 of $5,000 for Cottonwood County Probation to utilize to assist persons court ordered to pay restitution to crime victims by working community service hours. $1,000 was approved to be set aside for the remainder of 2024 for restitution reimbursement. Commissioners moved to adopt the updated Mutual Aid Agreement between City of Windom and Cottonwood County. $10,650 was approved for the proposed upgrade for the door access control for the Cottonwood County Human Services Building. The proposed 2025 departmental budgets were reviewed by the board.
