Windom Area Schools are in full swing adaptability and looking toward making their students and staff have a successful upcoming year. Not only did the flood wipe out the football fields but there were soccer games scheduled to be played this year too! BUT jumping into action with considerable thought the School Board approved the Home Field Advantage plan on Monday Night. What does this mean? It means by taking a proactive stance the Eagles will be playing home games this year instead of bussing out student athletes to sporting events like they did with the 2018 floods. Unfortunately, the flooding and the damage to Island Park Fields in late June have rendered the field unplayable and unable to be restored to playable conditions before the start of fall sports season. In total, Island Park Fields were set to host 8 soccer games between Varsity/JV boys and girls, 12 Football games between Varsity, JV, and Junior high and all the 4th-6th grade youth football programs who will also need a place to play. According to Frank, the school has been extremely fortunate to have a group of community leaders come together to help assist us with a plan that will allow this to happen with minimal cost to the school district. The Football and Soccer Teams will play home games on the school track’s interior during the Fall 2024 season. This is a short-term plan that will give our students the best opportunity in this difficult time after the flood damaged Island Park. A full story with steps of the transition, advantages, lighting issues, time schedules and pictures are available on Today’s Local Headline News on KDOM’s website at www.windomradio.com  also when there is a horn to toot I fully believe that it should be tooted loud! I was thrilled to receive the update from the Windom School Board regarding the completion of the annual superintendent evaluation.  The board’s response clearly expressed their extraordinary pleasure in Superintendent Jamie Frank’s leadership. It was quoted as saying, As a new superintendent, she has performed with an unexpected level of poise and wisdom.  She maintains relationships while also driving excellence.  Mrs. Frank has a drive to create the best possible learning environment for every student.  She has demonstrated an excellent grasp on school finance, school governance, and foresight into how to navigate into the future. Personally, I have seen Superintendent Frank in action, and I believe that these accolades are well deserved. Congratulations Jamie for a great review, I know you give 110% every day.

Today is National Aunt and Uncle Day!! We all know Aunts and Uncles are more important than parents because we are FUN!!! We don’t have the same set of rules and we are the BEST at keeping secrets and stirring pots of mischievous good times without getting blamed!!! We have secret weapons of knowledge that parents don’t want their children to know they did when they were younger. Steve and I am very fortunate that we have 51 Nieces and Nephews which also include Great Nieces and Nephews and we LOVE to watch every little personality shine! Family reunions are a hoot, and we are blessed and who knew there was a specific day of celebration of the greatness of being an Aunt or Uncle! It’s also coincidentally National All or Nothing Day… Breaking limits of your mindset is what this day is all about.. Taking the risk and trusting that breaking the rules makes life just a little more exciting… BUT remember if you get caught it’s your cousin’s fault!!! I see that it is National Talk in an elevator day too… Nothing drives people battier than talking to them in an elevator. It is awkward and hilarious! People have no where to go!!!! They can’t look farther than you!!!! Try it have fun with it! Spread the joy of conversation with a stranger… BUT don’t be like weird… That is just creepy… I do think this day was made for Gibbs… You know the show NCIS? Where was his favorite place to have a conversation?? THE ELEVATOR!!!! I sure miss Gibbs…
