Last week, Mankato police received a complaint about a driver that was swerving all over the road and ran a red light. The reporter provided a description of the vehicle, license plate number and reported this driver was filling up with gas at a local gas station. Upon investigation, Mankato police spoke with 57-year-old Robert James Schroeder of Windom. Schroeder was reported to smell of alcohol and he was slurring his words. Schroeder admitted to drinking too much before driving. Police reported he had a difficult time standing and could not follow instructions for impairment tests. A preliminary breath test put his blood-alcohol content at .24, which is three times over the legal alcohol limit. Records show this is Schroeder’s fourth DWI and his eighth overall DWI.  Court records show Schroder has three felony DWI convictions with the latest being from 2020 when he was sentenced to four years in state prison. Schroeder was charged in Blue Earth County Court last week with two counts of felony DWI and driving after cancellation which is a misdemeanor.
