The City of St James reminds drivers that the road between 200 & 300 block of 1st Avenue South will be closed today to remove ash trees in boulevard.

Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office reported 64 calls in the week of January 28th to February 3rd. Deputies conducted 36 Civil Processes, assisted 2 other agencies, had 2 Motorist Assists, conducted 5 Traffic Stops and served 2 warrants. A New Ulm man, Austin Daniel O’Hearn was sentenced on January 22nd in Redwood County Court to the St Cloud Correctional Facility for charges stemming from May 26, 2023 when the Redwood County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search warrant on a residence in Belview on a report of a stolen firearm. When Law Enforcement entered they found O’Hearn and a woman. While searching for the firearm, deputies found drug paraphernalia and illegal drugs sitting out in plain site. A second search of the residence, and a nearby property, turned up marijuana and additional methamphetamine. O’Hearn has two prior convictions for illegal drug possession. O’Hearn was sentenced to 17 months in the Correctional Facility, stayed for two years, 42 days local confinement, two years supervised probation and fees and fines of $335.

Jackson County Sheriff’s Department reported 7 calls on the 5th. Deputies responded to a report of a theft from a Jackson business. The matter remains under investigation. Deputies conducted a welfare check and at 1:45pm responded to a burglary in Jackson and after investigation a 48-year-old woman was arrested for Burglary. Deputies handled a report of trespassing at the EconoLodge, the party was served a Trespass Notice by management in the presence of deputies. There was a minor accident in the JCC High School Parking Lot and Dispatch transferred a 911 call of a pig that was halfway out of a semi- trailer traveling along on I-90 near Alpha.  A deputy happened to be in the area and located the semi.  A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver was informed of the issue which he addressed. At 7:31pm a deputy responded to a report of an injured deer in the middle of US 71 on the north edge of Jackson.

The Windom Area Schools Finance Committee will be meeting Friday February 9th at 11am in the Superintendent’s Office to review the Capital Budget and Capital Projects.

The 19th Annual Fulda Community Ambulance Fundraiser will be this weekend on the 10th at the Fulda Community Center Social Hour starts at 5 and dinner at 6pm. Steaks will be grilled by Rock-Nobles Cattlemen and the rest of the meal is prepared by ambulance members. There will be BINGO and a Raffle following the dinner. You can purchase your tickets at Fulda Hardware, City Hall, Fulda Lumber, Antonio’s, Maynard’s or SheBrews or contact any Ambulance member. Ticket ARE Available at the door, too. Tickets are $20. Proceeds are used for ambulance equipment and training.
