Change is in the air in Mountain Lake. In an announcement from Nene Smestad owner of Mountain Lake Floral she stated, After 41+ years of owning the shop and serving you, her valued customers, she is happy to announce that Mountain Lake Floral will be under new ownership in January.
And what makes this transition so special is that the new owner is no stranger to you or the shop. Mountain Lake native Jessica (Herrig) Thompson and her husband Kris will be continuing the legacy of personal service and beautiful flowers that you’ve grown to expect from us. Jessica is a former Mountain Lake Floral employee and a talented floral designer who is eager to serve you and take the business into the next 40 years!
Nene went onto say, “I’ll be working alongside Jessica and Kris throughout the upcoming year, assisting with holidays, funerals and weddings. In addition, you can expect some exciting new merchandise offerings, including unique, custom apparel, tumblers and personalized gifts”.

Nene would like the community to join her in welcoming Jessica, Kris and their 6 children as they move to the Mountain Lake community. As someone who raised her children in the store, it brings such joy knowing they will carry on this local, family-owned business into the next generation(s). Thank you in advance for giving them the same support you’ve given our family—and business—for the past 41 years.

We here at KDOM congratulate Nene in her retirement and wish Jessica and Kris the best of luck as the new owners of Mountain Lake Floral.

It’s been a long week! I’ve been fighting a chest cold. I’m not usually a victim to sickness but this “cold” has conquered me to no end. I’m super grateful that today is National Brew a Potion Day. Yep it’s time to brew my own get well potion so that I can ALSO celebrate Good Memory Day. I mean I am thinking back to when I wasn’t coughing and carrying on… THAT was a good memory but I have to share that whenever I hear Memory it whisks me back to a warm day on a beach in Mexico and my son Nate was going around taking pictures for strangers and photo bombing said strangers pictures, saying “NOW THAT’S A MEMORY” I am sure on this day, “celebrate a Good Memory Day”, he is apart of many memories saying who was that guy? Today is also National Popcorn Day, whether you like it plain, buttered, carameled or cheesed… Popcorn is just the perfect snack and should be celebrated.
