At the Windom City Council Meeting last week there was an update from the Windom Lions Club. They have now purchased two overhead doors for the new Shelter down at Tegels Park by Cottonwood Lake. The overhead doors will have windows in them and they plan to have them open in the summer and closed during the winter months. Unfortunately, this purchase has drained their funds for the shelter but are hoping to find funding to purchase two more doors in the future. The doors will cost approximately $6,200 plus installation.

The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission has approved the addition of a new area code of 924 to the geographic region of the 507 area code. This process is known as an area code overlay. An overlay does not require customers to change their existing area code, but it will require using a new dialing procedure to complete calls. Anyone with a 507 area code will need to start dialing 507 prior to the 7 digit phone number. The new area code dialing procedure will go into effect as of January 30, 2024. Callers will be granted a grace period in case you forget to dial the area code until July 30th. As of July 30th you MUST dial the area code plus seven digit telephone number on all calls including calls with your same area code. If you don’t dial the area code first, your call will not be completed and a recording will instruct you to hang up and dial again including area code. Beginning August 30th new telephone lines or services may be assigned numbers with the new 924 area code. If you have questions regarding this new procedure you can call the number on your phone bill or access the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission website at: https://mn.goc/puc/
