Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported 33 calls from November 11th to 16th. Deputies handled three separate domestic abuse calls, assisted 8 other agencies with accidents, domestic disturbance, and medical calls. 31-year-old Mitchell Kenneth Gregory of Waseca was involved in a fatal haybine farming accident in Morrison Township, according to Rice County Sheriff’s Office. According to a report, on November 17th at approximately 3:15pm Rice County Sheriff’s Office was called to Jackson Ave close to 260th Street West. Unfortunately, Gregory became entangled in a haybine, which is a machine used for cutting and crushing hay. Morristown Fire and Rescue, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and Rice County Sheriff’s Department were on scene.

The Windom Area Chamber of Commerce held their Annual Gala on the 17th at the Windom Community Center. The night was filled with fun, food and entertainment. Winners were Announced from the following categories.
Rookie of the Year Award went to Kwik Trip accepted by Manager Paulette McNab. She talked about how Windom Kwik Trip has surpassed budgets greater this past year than in new stores opening in Sioux Falls. McNab promoted how they want to provide more to the community in monetary and product donations but everything must go through Corporate but wants to help educate how to access these donations. Chamber Champion Award was presented to Penny Raia, Manager at McDonalds. Penny humbly accepted this award and spoke how 30 years of service to the community through McDonalds and other organizations where she volunteers her time and energy
Exceptional Achievement Award was presented to owners Travis and Bridget Hodkin for Elite Mechanical and Elite Appliance Plus. Bridget spoke on behalf of the couple and stated that it has been a long process but they are thankful to the community for supporting their dreams and growth.
Lifetime Achievement Awards were granted to Five Individuals for their businesses and commitment to providing service and support to the community of Windom for over 20 years. Each Award winner present gave such wonderful speeches that truly showed why they were apart of such an elite honor. Winners were:
Mike LaMaack- employee of Bank Midwest for 42 years and involved in many charitable organizations for over 30 years.
Dr. Gary Nelson– had a daily goal in his 42 years of practice to always be “Patient First”.
Randy Olson- 21 years with Windom Schools. Olson has taken great pride in his work with the custodial staff.
Dr Bruce and Lisa Turner and Dr Steven and Karen Hartberg were not able to attend the Gala but were honored with words of thanks from each.
