The Minnesota State Patrol reported a multi-vehicle collision on the 7th at 12:03pm. A 2022 Freightliner semi was traveling westbound on Highway 60 and a 2008 Toyota Camry was traveling southbound on Highway 71 when they collided. A 2018 Volkswagen Atlas was then struck by a light pole that was damaged from the initial crash.

The driver of the Freightliner, 63-year-old of Las Vegas, Nevada, was not injured. The driver of the Toyota a 69-year-old female of Windom had non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Windom Area Hospital and the driver of the Volkswagen that was struck by a light pole was a 68-year-old female from Lakefield also had non-life-threatening injuries and was also taken to Windom Area Hospital.

Assisting at the scene was Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office, Windom Police Department, Windom Fire Department, and Windom Ambulance.

Mountain Lake Police Department reported 11 contacts for the week of February 27th to March 5th.  Mt Lake Officers assisted other agency with a vehicle off road and then assisted another agency with a wrong way driver on Highway 60. The driver a 71-year-old male from Lennox SD was located and a citation was issued for careless driving and wrong way. Officers had two separate civil standbys and handled a verbal domestic and gave advice on obtaining an Harassment Restraining Order. A child was found safe, shortly after being reported missing and an officer cited an 18-year-old female driver from Mt Lake for a school bus stop arm violation. A Mt Lake Police Officer arrested a 29-year-old male from Mt Lake for domestic assault. An officer cited a driver for no MN Drivers License. A welfare check was conducted with everything being ok and an officer arrested a 32-year-old male from Windom for 5th degree assault.

Windom City Council met on the 7th. According to City Councilwoman Jenny Quade the  MPCA Wastewater Treatment Compliance Evaluation Inspection Report was presented and Windom was in compliance in all areas of the report with no violations. Quade also stated that TSP Engineering was approved for the Liquor Store Facility Expansion. The Liquor Store Committee will be moving into Phase 2 of the project looking at design, development and moving towards the bidding process of the liquor store expansion and remodel project. A public hearing has been set for March 21st for the proposed vacation of a utility easement for the commercial property by the community center area. The Council approved the hiring of the New EDA Director Tiffany Lamb whose first official day will be March 22nd.

Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners met on the 7th. The Commissioners moved to enter into the Agreement for Professional Services with SEH Inc for a landfill feasibility study in the amount of $34,200. After discussion, the board moved to reject all bids for contract mowing and readvertise. The Commissioners awarded (Project 017-592-001) the reconstruction of 480th Ave in Great Bend Township to Towne & Country Excavating, Inc in the amount of $459,885.30 and awarded the five county road resurfacing projects (Projects 017-613-047, 017-609-011, 017-627-04, 017-644-002, and 017-611-020) to Knife River in the amount of base bid – $1,258,543.30 and alternative two – $2,514,172.00, for a total amount of $3,772,715.30. The Commissioners reviewed and discussed financial budgets and the two hires for the Deputy Auditor/Treasurer were approved.
