The Windom Fire Department were called out to Toro on Monday evening at 10:56pm according to Fire Chief Ben Derickson. The fire was contained to a ventilator for the Weld Department and Windom Fire cleared the scene at 12:30am. Windom Fire Department, Windom Ambulance, Windom Police Department and Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Department were on scene. There were no injuries reported.

The Windom Police Department reported on the 28th at 4:44pm an officer took a report regarding a HRO Violation call. The call came from a Female from Windom that stated a 58-year-old male from Heron Lake that was just released from jail had texted her and there is a HRO in place. After investigation, an arrest was made of the 58-year-old Heron Lake Male for Harassment Order Violation and Release Order Violation.

The St James EDA Board began discussing plans for the old hospital site. According to Mayor Jon Wilson in the coming months, a Land Use Steering committee will work with Bolton and Menk to discuss housing, transportation, future development and sustainability from the results of the city’s survey from December 2022. In the future, there will be focus groups formed to continue to expand on the above mentioned topics.

Turkey Hunters are now eligible to buy their licenses for the Spring 2023 season. Lincenses may be purchased online at www.mndnr.gov/buyalicense or by calling 888-665-4236 or you can still purchase in person wherever hunting and fishing licenses are sold. Hunters can hunt statewide and buy licenses for any time period over the counter. For research purposes, license agents will be asking hunters which permit area they plan to hunt, so hunters are advised to know which permit area they plan to hunt when they buy their license. The information is useful to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources in managing the state’s turkey population. Importantly, hunters who identify their permit area when purchasing their license will not be restricted to hunting in only that area. There will be a Firearms Safety Training Classroom Class at the Horse Barn Hunt Club on Mondays starting March 13th through April 17th from 6pm-8pm in Lakefield. There will be a field day on Saturday at 9am on April 22nd starting at 9am. There is a fee of $7.50 and the instructor will be Paul Cihak (See Hawk) to register or if you have questions contact Paul at 507-920-7538. You must be 11 years of age before the start of the first class on March 13th to be eligible to take this class. Parents are required for the first night for registration and are welcome to stay for all classes.

So I am guessing many of you out there have the chance to “just get away” on a regular basis, I mean leave all your worries behind and take sometime to unwind and recharge… It has been a very long time since I have had that opportunity. I dream of a sunny beach with a frosted beverage in my hand as I lay under an umbrella watching the waves come to my feet and quench them of the stress of life and then recoil to the ocean taking all that stress away as the waves flow into the sunset. Another year goes by and I am NOT on that beach but I am going to walk away for a few days. Give the ol vocal chords some time off and shut my mind down so that when I immerse back into society there is room up there to see and appreciate all that is good in life… of course Tuesday gave me a heartattack when the sudden snowstorm came from the sky, and I hear that silly ol’ weatherman telling me that a major weather storm is coming up and going to be in my path… I’m not stressed… I am on vacation… Whether it is a tornado that picks me up and whisks me to my destination or the car decides to run smoothly or maybe the airplane doesn’t get cancelled… NO MATTER where I end up… I will be just where I need to be… Isn’t that what vacation is all about? And no matter where you go there you are! Here or there or everywhere!!! Ok today is Dr Suess Day… It’s his Day of All Days and if he wasn’t born he’d be a wasn’t and that’s not very pleasant is it… I LOVE Dr Suess and all the silly willy rhymes he wrote that have lasted through the test of times… AND it is no joke today is also National Banana Cream Pie Day… What a great way to celebrate being alive!!!
