Things took a turn for the worse in the Murder Trial for Ralph Leslie Apmann yesterday when he failed to appear for his court hearing. Apmann has been free on a $150,000 bail since the Fall of 2021. Apmann is being charged with second degree murder without intent while committing a felony. Apmann and victim 40- year-old Juan Morales-Rivera had a fight on the 25th of August where Morales-Rivera died. Apmann, according to Assistant Police Chief Cory Hillesheim was last seen by a family member early Monday morning. Local law enforcement searched Windom Area on foot and also used the newly activated drone, with no luck. The jury was released by Judge Christina Wietzema with a stearn warning they were not to speak to anyone in the public about the case and were to stay away from reading media posts. A Press Release was issued by The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Windom Police Department at 3:15pm Monday afternoon. The Press Release stated the MN BCA and the Windom Police Department are attempting to locate Ralph Leslie Apmann aged 58. Apmann posted bail after being charged in a homicide case, but failed to appear in court on Monday morning, February 13, 2023, for the trial. Apmann is believed to be armed with a 9mm handgun and an AR-15 rifle. Investigators believe Apmann may be in the Twin Cities metro area. Ralph Leslie Apmann has a felony warrant for 2nd degree homicide and failure to appear for jury trial. If you have seen Ralph Leslie Apmann or know his whereabouts, do not approach. Please call 9-1-1. Apmann is a white male, 5 foot 10 inches approximately 230 pounds he has Hazel Eyes and has gray/bald hair. The Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office reported 51 calls from February 5th to February 11th. Deputies had 19 Civil processes, three Traffic Stops, one verbal domestic call, three animal calls, two Juvenile Runaways, three public assists and two suspicious vehicle calls. Minnesota Department of Transportation are advising motorists to use caution on Highway 62 near the Lake Heron Outlet west of Windom and on Highway 4 near Fort Ridgley Creek between Sleepy Eye and Fairfax, starting Monday, February 20th, weather permitting. Road workers will begin removing trees in preparation for rip rap (or rock) installation later this summer. This is being done to prevent erosion in this area and is being performed in cooperation with the Department of Natural Resources.
