The Windom City Council met on Tuesday, according to City Councilwoman Jenny Quade, MnDOT representatives were present to speak on the Hwy 60/71 section of the road on the South end of town. They stated that some new signs have been installed since their last discussion with the council. MnDot stated the State also collected some speed data and suggested some speed enforcement type flashing notifications could be used temporarily to address speed. MnDot pointed out that there is approximately 9,000-12,000 vehicles per day coming through the town of Windom and in the future they are considering a roundabout in the area of Hwy 60/71 junction by Kwik Trip/Hardee’s intersection which would eventually reduce speeds in that area. Quade stated that MnDOt also talked about replacement of the two stop lights in town possibly in 2025, which could possibly have turn signals on the stop lights as well. While replacing stoplights there will be a seal coating project so they may have to be some adjustments made with the striping prior to the seal coat project.
The Council approved the re-appointments by Mayor Dominic Jones- of Justin Schmidt, Dr Michael B. Fisher and Kay Gross to the Hospital Board. The Council discussed the City Prosecution Services that are currently contacted with the Cottonwood County Attorney’s Office. The County Attorney provided notice to discontinue the City prosecution services effective May 1, 2023. This situation was talked about with the current City Attorney, Law Enforcement and the City Administrator. According to Quade, there may be some language to suggest that just one party may not be able to terminate the contact between the County Attorney, the County Board and the City but this will need to be looked into further. The Board of Review for the City of Windom which is a joint meeting with the County Assessors Office was set for May 9th at 4:30pm.
