Windom Police Department reported they had 408 total calls for the month of December with Four Adult arrests, two Juvenile arrests and three warrants served. There were 14 accidents with zero injuries, three DUI’s and 68 Traffic Violations and/or Warnings issued. Officers handled 13 suspicious activity calls, had 36 public assists, delt with 12 alarms, 2 thefts and 2 disorderly/trespass calls. Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported on the 4th Deputies issued nine snow emergency parking violations throughout Jackson and they aided and assisted eight different vehicles in ditches and one abandoned vehicle that was paritially on the roadway on County Road 22 near County Road 29 in Enterprise Township. On the 5th deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at an apartment complex in Jackson and are still investigating a hit and run in Jackson. Deputies assisted the MN State Patrol with a one vehicle rollover in the median on I-90 east of Jackson. The Jackson Ambulance and Rescue also responded for precautionary reasons. Late afternoon Deputies responded to a vehicle that slid off Emily Street in Jackson. A tow truck was called to the scene to assist.

The Cottonwood County Commissioners met on the 6th Larry Anderson was elected the 2023 Board Chair and Norm Holmen was elected the 2023 Board Vice-Chair. The Board accepted Sheriff Jason Purrington’s letter for a Leave of Absence from his previous held position of Deputy Sheriff and moved to re-appoint Dr. Rodney Dynes to a 4 year term as County Coroner, re-appoint Priscilla Comnick, RN, as Coroner’s Investigator, and appoint the following Deputy Coroners: Brett Van Kley, MD, Jeff Taber, MD, Thomas Koehnen, MD, and Andrew Kopperud, MD, and include all in the county bond. In other action, the Commissioners approved the resolution “For Agreement to State Transportation Fund, Local Bridge Replacement Program, Grant Terms and Condition.” Also the Resolution for Agency Agreement, “Bridge Replacement Priority List”and approved the 5-year construction plan as presented. The County Commissioners approved the purchase of two Dodge pickups from state bid to replace the two pickups that were previously approved for purchase in August of 2022 and cancelled by Ford. The 2023 meeting dates were set for the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month with the exception of July 5 and December 6th. All meetings will begin at 9:00 a.m. with the exception of June 20th – Board of Equalization and December 6 – Budget Discussion Meeting (TNT) which will be afternoon meetings; and that 12 additional work sessions can be scheduled with no per diems.
2023 meal rates and seasonal wages were set and there was a motion to set the 2023 Contingency Fund for the County Attorney’s Office at $3,000, and set the per diem for committee members other than commissioners at $85 per meeting for 2023.
It was moved to set the Cottonwood County crop damage rates at $900/acre for corn and $600/acre for soybeans for the 2023 growing season.
