CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER: Tonight, is the night! Plan to stop by Windom’s Downtown Christmas by Candlelight. The evening begins at 4:00 and goes until 7:00 in the downtown square and at Island Park. Along with being able to shop the square businesses, you’ll also get to see Santa and his reindeer, listen to caroling, enjoy hot chocolate in the park and experience the luminaires around the square honoring cancer survivors and the memory of those we have lost, thanks to local donations and The Cottonwood County Versus Cancer Committee. Bring the family and get into the Christmas spirit in downtown Windom.

The Mountain Lake Police Department reported 12 calls from December 7th to the 11th. Officers handled a Stray Cat and a Dog at large call, assisted a party getting home, and another driver with directions, and assisted another agency with a driving complaint and also with a person walking on the shoulder of Hwy 60-officer gave a ride to Casey’s to meet someone to pick them up. Officers made one welfare check with everything being ok. Returned a billfold to owner that had been turned in and cited drivers for no MN Drivers License, driving after revocation and failure to maintain lane. An officer also handled a verbal domestic call.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported on the 12th at 1:41pm deputies assisted the MN State Patrol with an accident involving minor injuries on CR 51 on the I-90 overpass. Warmka Towing and the Jackson Ambulance assisted at the scene. Then at 5:40pm responded to a car vs. deer crash near Petersburg on CR 4 with no injuries. At 7:16pm there was a 911 call of a vehicle that spun into the ditch on MN 86 3 miles north of the Iowa state line and then at 7:3pm A deputy responded to a vehicle that spun into the ditch on CR 9 near Okabena. There were no injuries. On the 13th there were three separate incidents of vehicles in the ditch that deputies responded to. One on MN 60 east of Heron Lake, one on MN 86 3 miles south of MN 86 and one on MN 60 at MN 86. No injuries were reported.

The Windom Area School District School Board postponed their Special Meeting today at 5pm to Monday December 19th at 5pm. This will be a closed meeting to discuss pending litigation. The meeting will be held in the Windom Elementary School Conference Room.

Friday December 16th the roof will be rocking for the Windom Elementary School when the Kindergarten through 3rd graders perform at their Holiday Concerts. Kindergarten and 1st graders will start at 6pm and the 2nd and 3rd Graders perform at 7pm. Both concerts will be held in the High School Gold Gym.

Free Healthy Meals are available for Adults 18-59 years of age today from 12:30-1:30pm at the Windom Community Center on a first come first serve basis. Meals are a bundle of 10 frozen meals FREE OF CHARGE, through a grant from Second Harvest Heartland. No residency, no income guidelines, no registration, no reservation required. Please use the south doors of the parking lot.
