The Windom Police Department posted their November statistics. There were 331 total calls for the month with Three Adult Arrests, three Juvenile Arrests and two warrants served. There were 12 accidents with zero injuries, two DUI’s and 32 Traffic Tickets and/or Warnings issued. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported on the 9th there were multiple citations issued for No Parking-Snow Emergency throughout Jackson and a deputy responded to a report of a semi that slid off the off-ramp on I-90 at Jackson. And at almost midnight The Jackson Fire Dept, Jackson Ambulance, and deputies responded to a report of a pickup in the ditch and on fire near east of Jackson near the intersection of 790th St. and 570th Ave. After investigating, a 20-year-old male from Jackson was arrested for probable cause Underage Drinking and Driving. Fire personnel were on scene for about 1 hour. There were no injuries.
On the 10th at 12:30am A deputy conducted a traffic stop on CR 34 near Public Works. After investigating, a 26-year-old male from Estherville, Iowa was arrested for Providing False Name of Another Person to a Peace Officer. Deputies also dealt with a minor accident in a Jackson Parking Lot and responded to a disturbance at an apartment in Jackson close to midnight.

Windom City Council met on the 6th. A presentation of the 2023 City Budget was held. The proposed tax levy shows a 7.6% increase. The General Fund Reserve Balance is at 51.24%, which is within the target range of the City Council. A public hearing was held for the Police Department Drone Policy. The policy mirrors the MN Statute regarding drone use. After discussion the Council approved the policy as presented. The Council approved the EDA resolutions to Decertify TIF District 1-16 and A Tract in TIF District 1-22. Starting January 1st the City, School and County will start receiving their share of the property taxes in those areas. The Airport Zoning Enactment Project is in need of updating as the newest version is from 1970. The cost for the agreement with SEH Professional Services will be $48,000 with 90% of the share coming from the FAA and possibly a share coming from the State of Minnesota.

The 2023 Women in Ag Network Conference will be February 7th in Willmar at the Willmar Conference Center. Conference will deal with “Building Resilience on your Farm and in your Family,” This event will be a day of learning and networking for women involved in agriculture. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with the conference program from 9am to 3pm Breakout sessions will feature three diverse tracks for attendees to choose from on topics regarding business, production and safety and health. The day will end with a panel discussion on resiliency featuring local women in agriculture who have shown exceptional resiliency in their life and on their farm.

The American Lutheran Church located at 906 Prospect Ave will be presenting their Living Nativity tomorrow evening from 5:30-7:30pm. Outside you can witness a life-sized manager scene and take a horse drawn carriage ride. Inside the church in the Skylight Court you can enjoy music, a bake sale, cider and popcorn. In the Fellowship Hall a soup and chili supper will be served from 5 to 7. Everyone is welcome to stop by and partake in the festivities or at least drive-by and take in the true meaning of the Season. American Lutheran Church will also be accepting donations for the Windom Food Pantry during this event. So please consider bringing a non-perishable non-expired food item.
