On November 2nd at approximately 9:45pm, the Redwood County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a vehicle that had been reported stolen near the 39000 block of County State Access Highway 24. The vehicle then fled at a high rate of speed and ended up driving through a field where the vehicle got stuck. The driver then fled on foot into the field. After searching the field, officers on scene located an adult male who was then taken into custody. The Redwood County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Redwood Falls Police Department, the Morgan Police Department, the Lower Sioux Police Department, and the Minnesota State Patrol.

October Weather Stats 11/2/22
The monthly weather statistics have been reported for the city of Windom in October. The information is compiled by a local weather observer and reported to the National Weather Service Office in Sioux Falls. It was another extremely dry month. We received just nine hundredths of an inch of precipitation throughout October. In 2021, the rainfall amount was three and twenty-one hundredths. For the year we have received just 19 and twenty-eight one hundredths of an inch which is six and thirty five hundredths of an inch behind where we were in 2021. The high temperature for the month was 82 degrees on October 23rd and the low for the month was 13 degrees on the 18th. The average high temperature was just over 63 degrees and the average low for October was just under 38 degrees.

Windom City Council met on Tuesday. The Council discussed the awarded quote to repair the roof at City Hall. There was $60,000 initially set aside for this project quote is $89,663. The Council approved to switch $30,000 from the Council Chamber Video Updates fund from Covid dollars to be used for Roof Fund. The Windom Alternative Learning Center / SWWC – Memorandum of Understanding was approved. This is a two-year contact with the City of Windom to provide a certain number of hours of police presence at their school building in exchange for a stipend of $14,000/year. Mayor Jones re-appointed Dan Ortmann to the Hospital Board. The second reading to establish City Council Salaries was done. The salary changes will take effect in 2023. The Mayor’s Annual Salary will be $6,900 and Council Members will be raised to $5,300.

Cottonwood County Drainage Authority met on Tuesday and moved to adopt the County Ditch Findings and Order for Removal of Property as presented to the board. The Authority also accepted the Petition to Impound, Reroute, and Divert County Ditch #33 Drainage System Waters and the Findings and Order Receiving Petition and Initiating Proceedings and the Petition to Impound, Reroute, and Divert Branch B1 of the JD #27 Drainage System Waters and the Findings and Order Receiving Petitions and Initiating Proceedings.
