Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported on Sunday, Sept, 4th, at 12:13 PM, Jackson County Dispatch received a report of a possible drowning on Pearl Lake.  Three people were reported to have been on a paddle boat which submerged on them.  Two of the people were able to swim back to shore.  The third, a 23-year-old male, disappeared underwater and did not resurface.  The Lakefield Fire Department, Lakefield Ambulance, Lakefield Police Department, Jackson Fire Department, MN DNR, Arnolds Park-Okoboji Search and Rescue Dive Team, and deputies all responded to the scene.  At about 2:55 PM, the victim’s body was recovered in about 6 feet of water.  The victim’s identity will be released later.

Minnesota State Patrol reported on Monday, at approximately 12:29pm there was a two-car accident located on Highway 62 at County Rd 5, SPRINGFIELD Township, Cottonwood County

that resulted in a fatality. A Ford F350 driven by a 37-year-old male from Avoca MN was traveling westbound on Highway 62 when it collided with a Pontiac Vibe driven by a 15-year-old female from Windom that was also westbound, slowing for an intersection. The Driver of the Pontiac and the 54-year-old male passenger from Windom were transported by ground ambulance to Windom Area Hospital where the passenger succumbed to his injuries. The 15-year-old had life threatening injuries. The driver of the Ford was transported to the Worthington Hospital with what was believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. Outside Agencies assisting were Area County Sheriffs, Windom Police Department, Windom Fire and Ambulance Department, Heron Lake Police Department, Heron Lake Fire Department and Westbrook Fire Department.

Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Department reported on September 3rd at 9:13 am a Deputy was dispatched to 41930 Hwy 71 for report of a stolen vehicle, a 2013 Black Dodge Durango bearing MN/LIC AJB633 that was stolen from the residence driveway sometime between the hours of 10:00pm on September 2nd and 9:00am on September 3rd.

Cottonwood County Historical Society Annual Fall Fundraiser is September 12th from 4:30-7:00. Motorists traveling on Highway 60 between Highway 62 (6th Street) in Windom and County Highway 15 (470th Avenue) south of Windom can expect lane restrictions as crews started to install new striping and signage.

The project includes restriping the roadway to reduce Highway 60 from four lanes to two lanes in this area, extending the turn lanes near the Highway 71 intersection, and adding additional signage.

The work is expected to be complete by late-September, weather permitting.

Next week on the 13th of September from 9 to Noon the Cottonwood County Landfill, located at 43979 County Road 22 in Windom, will be accepting Clean, Empty, Plastic Pesticide Containers for Recycling. According to County Solid Waste Officer Donna Stresemann they will accept Clean, dry and properly rinsed containers. All containers MUST BE free of any pesticides, inside and outside of the container. Caps and Lids must be removed along with labels and discarded. The land Fill will NOT accept paper or plastic bags, metal cans or aerosols, glass containers, mini-bulk or containers over 55 gallons.
