On the 18th at approximately 11:55 am Jackson County Sheriff’s Department received a tip on the location of the Black, 2005 Chevy pickup and other property that had been recently reported stolen in Cottonwood County and reported to the Windom Police Department on the 17th from the back parking lot of Windom Towing Lot. Jackson County Sheriff’s Department reported the pickup was travelling southbound on CR 17 in Christiania Township and was being followed by a white van with a stolen toolbox ratchet strapped to the roof.  A deputy just happened to be travelling northbound at that exact location on CR 17 and met both vehicles.  He radioed to 4 other deputies who drove north from the Jackson area.  They intercepted both vehicles on CR 14 about 2 miles NW of Jackson and conducted traffic stops on both vehicles.  A 20-year-old male, from Rochester, who reported to be homeless, was driving the stolen pickup.  He was arrested and transported to Cottonwood County Jail and charged with Theft of Motor Vehicle, Possession of Stolen Property, 3rd Count Felony Theft and 5th Degree Controlled Substance Possession. The driver of the white van was a 34-year-old male from Windom. He was arrested for receiving Stolen Property and transported to the Cottonwood County Jail. Recovered was a stolen toolbox, and Snap-On Jump Pack taken from a Windom resident approximately 2 weeks ago. The Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office, Windom Police Department,  Lakefield Police Department and MN State Patrol assisted at the scene of the traffic stops.  Warmka Towing and Windom Towing also assisted at the scene.

Then at 2:53pm two Jackson County deputies assisted the Lakefield Police Department in searching for a 46-year-old male from Windom who had a warrant and was believed to be at a residence in Lakefield.  The warrant was out of Cottonwood County for Contempt of Court.  While the Lakefield Police Department and a deputy were knocking on the front door, a deputy located in the backyard reported that the male was running out the back door of the house.  The yard had a privacy fence surrounding it with a gate in the backyard.  The deputy was posted at this gate and arrested the male as he was about to flee out the gate.  He was transported to the Cottonwood County Jail. Later in the evening a 38-year-old male from Jackson with a warrant for a probation violation was located at his home. He was arrested and transported to the Jackson County Jail.  At 8:34 pm Deputies responded to a report of vandalism to a window at a residence in Jackson.  Charges of Criminal Damage to Property are pending for a 13-year-old juvenile.

On the 19th, a Jackson County Deputy responded to a report of goats that had escaped from a pasture and onto private property in Wilder, a report of a vehicle that had been egged in Heron Lake, and they assisted the MN State Patrol with a traffic stop in Jackson and subsequent arrest of the driver and passenger who were transported to the Jackson County Jail.

On the 20th at 12:30am a Jackson County deputy conducted a traffic stop in Jackson. After investigation a 55-year-old male from Broken Arrow OK was arrested for probable DUI. At 10:51 pm a Deputy met a Cottonwood County Deputy near Bergen and picked up a male they arrested on a Jackson County Warrant. The 45-year-old-male from Redfield, South Dakota has a Jackson County Warrant for Fail-to-Appear-Driving After Revocation and No Proof of Insurance. The male also has warrants from Spink County, SD for Possession of Controlled Substance, Unauthorized Ingestion of Controlled Substance, and Driving with Revoked License. He is awaiting Extradition Hearing on the South Dakota Warrant. In the evening of the 21st a Deputy responded to a report of vandalism to the tennis nets at Dumont Park. This remains under investigation.
