Windom Police Department reported a motorcycle accident on Monday the 8th at approximately 8:30pm on County Road #28 near Highway 71N intersection (Airport Road) A male driving a 99 Suzuki VS800 motorcycle was traveling east when he swerved to miss an animal on the roadway and went down. Windom Fire and Ambulance were called and he was checked by medical but no transport was needed. The Motorcycle sustained damage to the rear and side. nn

Cottonwood County Sheriffs Office reported on the 4th at approximately Noon a Deputy received a phone call from DNR Officer stating between July 31-August 3rd a Tactacam Reveal X was stolen from Summit Lake that is owned by the MN DNR. Appears someone had backed a truck up with a ladder in it and took it from the tree. Value is approximately $150. On the 5th at approximately 1030am Deputies were dispatched to the intersection of 240th St and 470th Ave in Sanborn for a two-vehicle accident involving an injury. A 61-year-old female rear-ended a vehicle pulling a trailer driven by a 21-year-old male. Then at approximately 734pm Deputies overheard Westbrook Fire and Ambulance get paged to a car fire northeast of Westbrook near 340th Ave and 290th Street. When the first Deputy arrived, they advised of a single vehicle rollover/fire. When the second Deputy arrived close to 8pm the Westbrook Ambulance was just leaving for the hospital, transporting the 17-year-old male from Westbrook. The vehicle was a total loss. On the 7th at approximately 8pm Deputies responded to a residence on County Road 5 in Heron Lake to take a report about possible vandalism. The reporting party informed the Deputy on Friday a white Chevy SUV drove by his mailbox, stopped, then took off to the north on County Road 5. The reporting party’s friend had recorded the vehicle driving to the mailbox and taking off. The mail was taken out of the box and thrown on the ground. Approximately 8 weeks ago someone put grease all over a pickup that was parked next to his garage. Approximately two weeks ago, someone put grease on a vehicle that was parked at his parent’s house that he normally drives.

Construction on Highway 14 between Sanborn and Springfield is nearly complete, and the detour was lifted as of August 5th, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The project, which began in early May, included resurfacing 8 miles of Highway 14, upgrading pedestrian ramps and sidewalks in Springfield, and adding school crossings at Cass Street and at East End Ave in Springfield. The project also included adding centerline rumble strips and intermittent shoulder rumble strips throughout the corridor and structural snow fence in two locations to control blowing snow.
Benefits of the project include improved pedestrian accommodations, smoother road surfaces and increased safety along the corridor.
