Motorists are advised to expect delays on Highways 4, 14, 30, 71, 75, 83, 91, 109, 169, and I-90 in southcentral and southwest Minnesota beginning Monday, August 1, weather permitting, as crews apply a seat coat to protect the treated highways from the harsh Minnesota weather.

The impacted highway portions in our listening areas include:

  • Highway 4
    • North of Sleepy Eye, from Highway 68 to just south of 280th Street
    • North of Sleepy Eye, from 280th Street Highway 19 near Fairfax
    • Iowa border to southwest of Sherburn
  • Highway 71: Windom to Highway 30 east of Jeffers
  • Highway 75: 1 mile south of I-90 to Luverne
  • I-90
    • Eastbound I-90 from Sherburn to Fairmont
    • Eastbound I-90 from Worthington to 10 miles east of Worthington
    • Eastbound I-90 south of Lakefield to west of Jackson

Traffic will be controlled with flaggers and a pilot car. Motorists should expect delays, drive with caution, and watch for workers, equipment, and traffic control devices. The seal coat is a preventative maintenance measure that provides a protective layer, reducing deterioration due to sun and moisture. Drivers are encouraged to slow down and be alert for loose gravel and oil in these areas.

The sealcoating process for each highway segment will take one to two days. Crews will then return a couple weeks later to paint final striping, which will be done under traffic.  The entire project will be completed by early September, depending on weather and material availability.

For updated road condition information, call 511 or visit www.511mn.org.
