Let the summer fun begin at Cottonwood Lake. Kayaks are back and ready for the publics use according to Windom Parks and Recreation Director, Tim Hogan. Using the kayaks is a pretty easy process according to Hogan, if you have your smart phone there is a QR Code that you can scan at the cages of the kayaks, this will take you to an information and waiver page. Once you have agreed to the terms of use you will be given a code to unlock the cage and remove your kayak. Hogan went onto say that the kayaks were funded by the Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Windom Area Chamber. Hogan pointed out that last summer was the first year for this fun free opportunity for everyone to use, unfortunately towards the end of the season all the kayaks sustained irreplaceable damage due to people not respecting the equipment. It took all the funding for this project to replace kayaks this summer and he is hoping people will show a little more respect. This will be the last year for this opportunity if the kayaks are damaged again. There isn’t an age limit per say, but there are weight restrictions. There are 3 adult kayaks available and one youth kayak available to be checked out. They are available on a first come first serve availability and participants are asked to limit their adventures on the water to 45minutes to an hour so more people have an opportunity get out on the water. Life jackets are a requirement, and all children should have adult supervision. Lifeguards are not available at Cottonwood Lake. The kayaks are to remain at Tegels Park and not moved to use on other bodies of water. Hogan did say if anyone sees or finds the kayaks damaged or in other locations, to please call him at 507-822-0514 or the City of Windom at 831-6129.

Hogan added that if anyone would like further information on the use of the kayaks, they can go to the Windom Area Chamber of Commerce’s website and read up on the project as a whole and you can also check out kayaks by accesses the website.
