Yesterday morning, Monday April 4th, the Windom Area School officials contacted the Windom Police Department to a potential bomb threat. The district had students and staff shelter in place. Officers responded and Windom Police Department advised the district to evacuate the Middle and High School Building. After students were evacuated from the building, law enforcement conducted a search of the premises. Windom Police Department believes there was no active threat to the school or students. This matter is still under investigation.

The Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office reported on April 3rd dispatch received a driving complaint at approximately 5:45pm of a vehicle driving all over the road westbound on County Road 17 from Comfrey. A deputy headed in that direction witnessed a vehicle matching the description of the complaint coming towards him and could see the vehicle mostly driving in the wrong lane. A traffic stop was conducted. The deputy noticed slurred speech and glossy watery eyes. Field sobriety tests were conducted and a short time later a 24-year-old male from Sanborn was arrested for DWI, charges are pending.

 

At approximately 11:45 pm on the 3rd Cottonwood County Dispatch received information from Westbrook Police Department of a traffic stop conducted on County Road 30 and 310th Ave near Westbrook. The driver of the vehicle did not have a valid driver’s license and had an active warrant out of Lyon County Iowa for Fail to Appear on Theft 5th Degree. The warrant was confirmed with Iowa, and they were going to extradite. A 38-year-old female from Slayton was arrested on the Iowa warrant and is being held for Fugitive from Justice in other state. Charges are pending.

Windom Police Department reported an accident at the intersection of 1st Ave and 7th Street, on April 4th. Minor Damage to both vehicles with no injuries reported.

On April 3rd an accident occurred on River Road and 8th Ave. A 2016 Jeep Renegade was traveling Southeast on River Road and struck a parked 2002Lincoln Continental. Heavy damage to vehicles with no injuries reported.

At approximately 6:15 pm Windom police officer was notified that a Female Windom Resident reported that a male from Windom had stolen her medical alert watch from the 100 block of 6th Ave. Estimated value of the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 is valued at $230. This matter is still under investigation and the female stated she wanted charges pressed on the 39-year-old male for misdemeanor theft.

At approximately 6:30pm on the 3rd Windom Police Officer was called to the 1400 block of 4th Avenue for a possible altercation between two males. After investigation, an arrest was made of a 39-year-old Windom Male for possible 2nd degree assault and Terroristic Threats which are both felonies. This is pending review by the County Attorney’s Office.

On April 2nd, at approximately 10:45 am a Windom police officer was dispatched to the 600 block of 2nd Ave in Windom for a report of an intoxicated individual. The reporting party thought the driver may have been drunk. After investigation, an arrest was made of a 28-year-old Minneapolis Male for misdemeanor DWI pending results of a blood sample.
