The Fire Department was dispatched out to a house fire at 9:45am this morning. When the firetrucks and ambulance arrived at 21 10th Street, they discovered a chimney fire that had captured in the attic. According to Fire Chief Ben Derickson there was minor damage done. The fire crew was on scene for one hour, once the smoke was exasperated from the attic everything was under control. The homeowner and their 3 cats were successfully removed from the home and there were no injuries reported.

The Federated Rural Electric Association is accepting applications for a college scholarship program. Two Scholarships will be awarded to area students. Each Scholarship is for ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS. The applicants must be the children of Federated R-E-A members. Applicants must complete the application, submit a transcript of their grades, submit scores of college entrance exams, provide references, and write a short essay on a topic related to rural electric cooperatives.   Application forms are available on the federated R-E-A website or interested students can call the office at 507-847-3520. All applications must be submitted by January 28th.
