THE MURRAY COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS MET LAST WEEK.    THE BOARD ACCEPTED A STATE GRANT FOR NEW VOTING EQUIPMENT.  THEY HEARD THE MONTHLY UPDATE FROM THE C-E-O OF THE MURRAY COUNTY MEDICAL CENTER.  THE BOARD DISCUSSED A PROPOSED RE-ORGANIZATION OF THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE, INCLUDING THE POSSIBLE IMPACT ON THE COUNTY BUDGET.  THE COUNTY ENGINEER REVIEWED A 5-YEAR CONSTRUCTION PLAN FOR THE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT.  A NEW AGREEMENT WAS APPROVED WITH THE PLUM CREEK LIBRARY SYSTEM.
A PUBLIC MEETING WAS HELD IN MT LAKE MONDAY NIGHT TO DISCUSS TRAFFIC SAFETY ON HIGHWAY 60.   THIS WAS A JOINT MEETING OF THE MT LAKE CITY COUNCIL AND THE COTTONWOOD COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS.  THERE WERE PRESENTATIONS BY THE STATE HIGHWAY PATROL AND THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION. 
THE MAIN TOPIC OF DISCUSSION WAS A PROPOSAL TO USE SO-CALLED “J-TURN” INTERSECTIONS ON HIGHWAY 60 AT THE MT LAKE EXITS.  MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO COMMENT.   MOST SPEAKERS WERE OPPOSED TO THE USE OF “J-TURNS.”
THE WINDOM COMMUNITY CENTER COMMISSION MEETS TODAY.    NEW AND RETURNING MEMBERS WILL TAKE THE OATH OF OFFICE.  ELECTION OF OFFICERS WILL BE HELD.  THE COMMISSION WILL DISCUSS ITS SCHEDULE OF MEETINGS FOR 2018.   RENTAL SURVEYS WILL BE REVIEWED.  THERE WILL BE A FINAL REPORT ON 2017 ACTIVITIES AT THE CENTER.  FURTHER DISCUSSION WILL BE HELD ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF A NEW AREA FOR OUTDOOR EVENTS.THE COMMISSION WILL DISCUSS OPTIONS FOR A 3RD ANNUAL BEER-TASTING FESTIVAL. 
THE WINDOM AREA HOSPITAL IS HOSTING A COMMUNITY “LUNCH AND LEARN” PROGRAM THIS WEEK.     THE PROGRAM ON HEART HEALTH WILL BE HELD AT NOON THURSDAY.  A LIGHT LUNCH WILL BE SERVED.  FOLLOWING THE LUNCH, THERE WILL BE A PRESENTATION ON HEART HEALTH.  PRESENTERS WILL INCLUDE A CERTIFIED NURSE PRACTIONER, A CARDIAC REHAB COORDINATOR, THE COMMUNITY HEALTH AND WELLNESS MANAGER, A NUTRITIONIST, AND THE OUTREACH CLINIC MANAGER.  CALL THE HOSPITAL TO MAKE A RESERVATION. 
HERON LAKE-OKABENA HIGH SCHOOL IS HOLDING ITS “WINTERFEST” CELEBRATION THIS WEEK.  THE THEME IS “WINTER WONDERLAND.”  CORONATION WAS HELD MONDAY EVENING.    RACHEL SALENTINY WAS CROWNED AS THE WINTERFEST QUEEN, AND JACOB BURDICK WAS CHOSEN AS THE KING.   THERE WILL BE DAILY DRESS-UP THEMES AND ACTIVITIES.   TUESDAY EVENTS INCLUDED A LIP-SYNC CONTEST AND CHARADES.  THERE WILL BE A DODGEBALL TOURNAMENT ON THURSDAY.  A DANCE WILL BE HELD AT THE HIGH SCHOOL THURSDAY NIGHT AFTER A HOME GIRLS BASKETBALL GAME.
