THE DES MOINES VALLEY HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES AGENCY WILL HOLD A BOARD MEETING AT 9:00 THIS MORNING IN THE CAFETERIA AT THE GOVERNMENT CENTER EAST BUILDING IN JACKSON.   ELECTION OF OFFICERS WILL BE HELD.  APPOINTMENTS WILL BE MADE TO COMMITTEES AND ADVISORY GROUPS.  THE BOARD WILL APPROVE A CONTRACT FOR FINANCIAL SERVICES.  A COST-OF-LIVING ADJUSTMENT WILL BE APPROVED.  A NEW POLICY WILL BE ADOPTED FOR THE PUBLIC HEALTH HOME-CARE SERVICE.  A WORK-SESSION WILL BE HELD LATER TO REVIEW THE AGENCY’S ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE.
THE WINDOM E-D-A HELD A MEETING THIS WEEK.     BETSY HERDING WAS ELECTED AS PRESIDENT OF THE E-D-A BOARD, WITH RICK CLERC AS VICE-PRESIDENT, AND JUSTIN ESPENSON AS SECRETARY-TREASURER.  THE BOARD DISCUSSED THE PHASE II EXPANSION OF THE NORTH WINDOM INDUSTRIAL PARK.  THE PLAN CALLS FOR USING THE PROCEEDS FROM AN EXISTING “TIF” DISTRICT TO FUND THE PURCHASE OF ANOTHER 80-ACRE PARCEL OF PROPERTY.  THERE WAS AN UPDATE ON THE PRAIRIE MEADOW HOUSING SUB-DIVISION.  THE BOARD DISCUSSED IDEAS FOR A NEW CITY-WIDE MARKETING STRATEGY.    
A REGULAR MEETING OF THE WINDOM SCHOOL BOARD WAS HELD THIS WEEK.   SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER DANA WALLACE PRESENTED A PROPOSAL FOR A TRIPLE-A SCHOOL SAFETY PATROL TO HELP YOUNGER CHILDREN CROSSING STREETS NEAR SCHOOL.  AGREEMENTS FOR EARLY RESIGNATION INCENTIVES WERE APPROVED WITH TEACHERS BRENDA RESCH AND JACKIE TURNER, AND CUSTODIAN DICK TORKELSON.  THE BOARD VOTED TO HAVE FOUR SECTIONS FOR NEXT YEAR’S 6TH-GRADE CLASS, WHICH CURRENTLY HAS 95 STUDENTS.  THEY APPROVED PLANS FOR THE SENIOR CLASS TRIP TO THE TWIN CITIES. 
A SENIOR-HIGH KNOWLEDGE BOWL MEET WAS HELD MONDAY IN LAMBERTON.     THERE WERE 18 TEAMS FROM 7 SCHOOL DISTRICTS.  REDWOOD VALLEY TOOK 1ST PLACE, WITH SPRINGFIELD 2ND.  MT LAKE WAS 3RD IN THE MEET.  WINDOM HAD THREE TEAMS IN THE MEET; WINDOM’S TOP TEAM FINISHED IN 6TH PLACE.  OTHER WINDOM TEAMS FINISHED IN 8TH PLACE AND 18TH PLACE.  OTHER AREA SCHOOLS WITH TEAMS AT THE MEET INCLUDED RED ROCK CENTRAL AND CEDAR MOUNTAIN.   THE NEXT SENIOR-HIGH KNOWLEDGE BOWL MEET WILL BE JANUARY 22ND.
THE WINDOM CITY PLANNING COMMISSION MET THIS WEEK.   RETURNING MEMBERS MARILYN WAHL AND BRETT MATTSON TOOK THE OATH OF OFFICE.  ELECTION OF OFFICERS WAS HELD, WITH MARILYN WAHL ELECTED AS CHAIRPERSON AND GREG PFEFFER AS VICE-CHAIR.  THE COMMISSION DISCUSSED ITS GOALS FOR 2018, INCLUDING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE NEW RENTAL HOUSING ORDINANCE, AND DEVELOPING A PROGRAM TO REDUCE BLIGHTED HOUSING.  THE RENTAL HOUSING ORDINANCE WILL BE IMPLEMENTED THIS YEAR FOR PROPERTIES SOUTH OF 9TH STREET. 
  
WINDOM AREA MIDDLE-HIGH SCHOOL HOSTED A V-E-X ROBOTICS TOURNAMENT LAST SATURDAY.    THERE WERE 23 TEAMS INVOLVED.  THE WINDOM “BUTTERFINGERS” TEAM WON THE OVERALL CHAMPIONSHIP.  THE BUTTERFINGERS WENT 6-1 IN QUALIFICATION MATCHES.  FORMING ALLIANCES WITH OTHER TEAMS, THE BUTTERFINDERS THEN WON TWO MATCHES IN THE QUARTER-FINALS; WON TWO MATCHES IN THE SEMI-FINALS, AND WON BOTH MATCHES IN THE FINAL ROUND.  THE WINDOM “IRON EAGLES” TEAM WENT 3-3-1 IN QUALIFICATION MATCHES, AND WAS ELIMINATED IN THE QUARTER-FINALS.
